The Taratahi-Carterton Racing Club recently accepted tenders for a new stewards' stand at the Clarcvillo racecourse. Tho building, a two-story structure, is to bo 34ft. by 33ft. over all, with a balcony in front '44ft. by 12ft. wide, which will accommodate about 150 persons. ' Tho ground floor will contain a secretary's room, weigh-ing-room, jockeys' dressing-room, and a capacious hall with a stairway to the upper floor.' The upper story will contain a Pressroom, stewards' meeting-room, ; committeeroom, etc. The balcony in front will bo divided into separate compartments for visitors, stewards) Press, and trainers and jockeys. Quite an amusing little scene took place at Iticcarton last week between a "guesser" and a bookmaker who was doing business in tho. paddock. . WOODVILLE JOCKEY CLUB. Tho annual meeting of tlio Woodville District Jockey Club was licld last week. The report and balance-sheet presented showed that tho past season, had been a most successful one, tho two race meetings resulting in a profit of about £1500. -During the sea" son the amount of £2-130 was paid away in stakes, considerable improvements wero effected on tho course, and an adjoining property of eight acres was purchased at a cost of .-£9OO. The statement of assets and liabilities showed tho. formor to be about £4000, and tho latter to be'about £400, while there was a satisfactory credit balance at tho bank. j ■
