THE STRIKE OF 1890,

A.largely-attondcd meeting of tho Canterbury branch of tho Associated Society of Railway Servants was held yesterday for tho purpose of considering tho position of the strikers of 1890, as to their back timo counting for tho purposes of superannuation. Strong feeling was shown at the action of the' Kxccutivo in not taking advantage of Sir Joseph Ward's offer to allow the Society to buy in their back timo for £1500, and it was decided .to send delegates 'to' all the branches in the Dominion to placo tho position of the strikers beforo the members. . Duncdin, August 17. A' special general meeting : of tho Otago branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants was .held yesterday afternoon, when Messrs. Cameron and Watson, delegates from-the' Canterbury branch," addressed a gathering of tho different Departments on a question affecting an offer to accept a sum of £1500 for tho pnrposo of making good for superannuation purposes the timo losfc by llioso men concornod in the striko of 1890/ After discussion, it was decided that tho .Canterbury delegates bo 'heartily thanked for their addresses, and that in the event of tho executive proceeding with tho ballot tho branch will do all in its poWer to bring tho samo to a successful issue.
