The preliminary report of the West Australian Government party sent to Derby to investigate tho great iron deposits" on an island near the coast-lias been furnished by Mr. Ellis, surveyor of tho party. . . , Mr. Ellis states that immense iron oro deposits wero found in the. cliffs, rising 500 feet from tho sea on an island. in Yampi Sound, 'near the entrance of King Sound, East Buccaneer Archipelago, about 120 miles from Derby.
Preliminary assays of samples taken showed the ore contained 70 per cent iron. ' . Good-shelter and harbour with deep water wero found near tho iron oro cliffs,': which extended along the coast of tho island for four , miles. , V
The Geological Department's report on the, practical value of the discovory lias not yet been furnished.
