On Friday a number of Hutt residents journeyed out by coaches to tho Taitii, where a very enjoyafilo danco was given by Mr. and Mrs. Stevens in honour of tho birthday of their' son Keith. The floral decorations of tho rooms wore very artistic, and tho guests danced in tho drawing-room,_ whero the floor had boon polished to perfection. In tho din-, ing-room, whero supper was served, tho tables were adorned with narcissi, daffodils, and violets. Among tho guests wero the. Misses Foster, Humfrey, Treadwell, Leo, Matthews, Sladden, Hayward, Buckhurst, and Barraud, and Messrs. Russell, Hajward, Troadwoll, and Mirams.
Tho last of the Hutt Cinderella dances, which have proved such a success this season, is to tako place at tho Hutt next Friday.
The wedding of Mr. N. Walden, of Rongomai, and Miss Graco Suisted, youngest daughter of Mr. R. Suisted, of Tanc, was celebrated at Tane, Bush' District, on Wednesday last.
A paragraph lias been going tho rounds of the New Zealand papers (says an Auckland Press Association message) to the effect that recently Lady Flunket is said to have expressed her opinion that the factory girls of Auckland should we3r bonnets and shawls, and domestic servants black sailor hats, during Fleet week. The absurdity of tho statement should carry its own refutation; but,as her Excellency has been asked in many quarters whether it is true, the local papers have been asked to state that it is a pure invention.
Miss Clara Palmer, who has during tlio past two. years been very successful with her' artistic leather work, is going to Europe to perfect herself in her art.' She is travelling with Mrs. MacEwan, and they have booked their passage by the Orontes, leaving Sydney next month. They intend to spend some months in Europe before visiting England. It is Miss Palmer's intention to remain at, Home. Tho Misses Kennedy, who have been away for tho last eighteen months, ninp months of which were spent in Germany, Returned to Now Zealand last Thursday. Miss Tregear is visiting friends in Picton. Our Otaki correspondent writes: —Mr. and Mrs. Or. M'Beatli, who left on Juno 18 for a trip to the Islands and Sydney, returned to Otaki on Saturday' night.' They report a glorious oruise at the. Islands, but not such a pleasant timo at Sydnoy, where tho. weather conditions wero unfavourable. Mrs. H. J. H. Blow, who has'been:spending a few weeks at Rotorua for tho benefit of her health, returns to-day'by way: of tho Main Trunk line. Mr.- Blow ..went''to' Makatoto yesterday to meet her; Mrs. Blow's health is not yet all that could bo wished.
Mrs. It. W, Holmes, who lias been ill- for several weeks, is' now' Steadily improving, though still unablo to leave' her room.
