RECORD TAKINGS AT AUCKLAND. (nr TELECiEirn—rnEsa association.) Auckland, August 17. . The takings at the gates pud stands at tho Auckland v. Wellington football match on Saturday last totalled £894. This is easily a .record for an interprovincial match, tho previous best being £750 taken at tho game between the same two provinces in 1904. Tho Wellington / Representative football team left for New Plymouth to-day en route for home. A very largo number assembled at the Auckland Railway Station to bid farewell to tho members of the team who, whilo accepting their defeat in a very sportsmanlike manner, were naturally disappointed at the largeness of the score registered, against them. Mr. 'J. Williams of Dunedin, who referred in the match last Saturday, also left to-day for home.
WALLACE TESTIMONIAL FUND, (BT TELEOEAPH—FBESS ASSOCIATION.)
Auckland, August 17. The representatives of the W. Wallace Testimonial Committee, ' Messrs. Arnold • and Brown, who came to Auckland last week, made, a collection at the Alexandra Park gates on Saturday, the sum realised being about £25. Several donations have been made, one being for £2 2s.', so that the amount realised by the visit to Auckland must approach £30. Private information was. received hero on Saturday, to the.effect that the.Wanganui representative football team, defeated by Manawatu by nine to nil here, aro about to become professionals, and will play their first match against a Wellington team. During the Horowhenua-Hawke's Bay representative match three of the West Coast men were badly crippled, and Winiata, tho hero of many games, and captain of tho team, was so injured that he will bo unablo to'don tho jersey again this season. He says ho has played his last game. Winiata has played a hard; but clean game, and should he retire from tho football arena he will bo a ..'decided loss. , . j

At a meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Union,- it was decided to play the representative match, Bush v.'Wairarapa, on Saturday! week, at, Carterton. ' ' A framed photo of the. representative team is to bo forwarded to Mr. James Duncan, of Dunedin, as a slight' return for the 'many kindnesses he showed the team; Mr.. Charters, together with the teachers from the several schools, are to meet.-.and draw up the allocation of the balance !of the money' voted by the New Zealand Union, for the improvement of Rugby in schools. Accounts of. upwards of £70 were passed, for payment. -——. ' :■ / ■ REFEREES',: ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Wellington Referees' Association was held in. Armit's Rooms last evening, Mr. F. A. Laws presiding. , An allegation was made by a member that the referee who controlled a 1 match last' Saturday was not in a fit-condition to have, charge of tho gamo, which had to. bo abandoned at. half-time. It was decided to inform tho Rugby Union of the matter, and to ask the 1 referee'complained of and tho captains of the two teams to- attend tho next meeting of the Association.
A sub-committee was set up to' mako arrangements for a social to be held on Saturday evening, after the match between the Wellington and Petono Referees' Associations. '
