RESOLUTION BY/SINGLE-TAX LEAGUE.-

At a meeting of the Wellington branch of the' Single Tax League, hold in tho Trades Hall last night, the following resolution was adopted:—"Whereas an attempt has been and is being made to create a bogus agitationin favour .of a heavy import duty ou Oregon pine, and whereas the most absurd and untruthful assertions have been published broadcast for the purpose of perverting public, opinion in this connijection, this League declares, as follows:—(1)' That the_ right to trade freely is one of tho first, of individual rights, any interference with which by tho Stato in the form of import or oxport'dutios is an unwarranted act of aggression. (2) That, having regard to tho dearness of building material' and ■ tho vital importance of conserving our native forest for climatic and other reasons,- wo declare that, as a matter of high' public policy, all duties on timber should bo abolished. (3) That we have noticed intense regret that tho attempt of the sawm'illcrs to increaso their profits at public oxpense has mot with the co-opera-tion of at least two representative meetings of organised labour. Having regard to the fact that the mass of the people are already cruelly overburdened "with indirect taxes, we consider it deplorablo; that tho latest piece of protectionist imposturo should receive any support from men calling themselves leaders of labour." ■
