VOLUNTEERS' REQUEST.
(" TELEGRAM—MESS ASSOCIATION.) Ounedin, August 15. A deputation representing the volunteer forces; of Dunedin waited on the Hon. R. M'Nab this aftornoon to urge upon him tho importance to the local defenco forces of retaining Forbury Park in its present state. Colonel Stoneliam said that it was absolutely impossible to do anything in the way of military evolutions in any other grouiid'in Dunedin, and if Forbury l'ark were lost volunteers would liavo to go out of town, which was practically impossible. Tho Corporation, having 11 good many other financial concerns in hand, tvere chary about undertaking any more, and could hardly be blamed. The deputation proposed that either the Government or tho Defenco Department should guarantee a certain'proportion as rental, and •tho sports bodies would, ho believed, be willing to contribute and enable tho Council to do tho rest. Something . liko a couplo of hundred pounds a year would perhaps uo. Mr. M'Nab said that all ho could say just now was that ho was in sympathy with the movement. : Ho know of his own knowledge of Dunedin that Forbury must bo the only ground suitablo for their purposes, and something must bo kept for volunteer movements. 'Nothing oould be promised, but he would seo if anything could, bo doiio.
