• All music-lovers will bo interested to learn that tho city of Vienna has just purchased tho house in which Franz Schubert was.born, and intends to preserve it in its present condition as leng as possible. Tho prico paid was £4400. Tho house is one of tho oldfashioned one-story type of buildings which are fast disappearing from modern Vienna. The front is utterly devoid of any attractivo features, but tho little court behind, with its wooden galleries, and garden on tho steep hillside, have a cortain poetic picturesquenoss. No musician of any distinction ever comes tc Vienna without making a pilgrimage to Schubert's birthplace.
