DOCTOR AGED 100'
THE KING'S TELEGRAM OP CONGRATULATION. ' On the celebration of his 100 th birthday, at his residence at Enfield, on July 1, Sir Henry Alfred Pitman, F.R.C.P., received a congratulatory message from the King and telegrams and letters from a large number of distinguished members of tho medical and other learned professions. Tho King, in his gracious message, congratulated Sir Henry on living to so groat an age, and referred in-cordial terms to his lengthy and valuable' services to tho causo of medical education. In the afternoon a deputation representing tho Royal College of Physicians, consisting of the President (Sir Richard Douglas Powell), and a number of tho Fellows, journeyed ito Enfield to congratulate tho aged physician, who was for many years registrar of the College, and to present him with a piece of plate. Sir Henry, in accepting tho gift, expressed his great pleasure at seeing so many of his old friends and pupils and his thankfulness for tho health and comfort which ho still enjoyed. _ During tho day Sir Henry also rcceivcd a congratulatory letter signed bv the president and tho vice-presidents of the Royal College of Surgeons, in which tho following sentence occurred: _ "It is a great pleasure to us or. this occasion to convoy to you tho good wishes of tho Council, and to assuro you of tho warm regard entertained by all of us for one whom wo look up to as the Nestor of our profession."
