BUTTER AND CHEESE CONTESTS.
BETTER RECOGNITION IN WAIRARAPA. The poor support which has been accorded the dairy ' industry in Wairarapa and Masterton by tho 'two A. and P. organisations has been . commented upon from ' time .to time (writes our Wairarapa correspondent). Meagro prize money, with the least possible degree of interest, has been:a feature of the masterly inactivity 'with which tho As--sociations- have identified ■ themselves with two of tho most important-branches' of the produce industry. The Wairarapa , Assooia-
tion emorged some "time ago from its shell, and is now devoting a large amount of prizo money for cheeso classes. The result is already apparent in a livening of interest and a largo number of cheeso companies have ''signified their intention of competing at tho next show. This is as it should bo. Tho cheese battle-ground of tho southern portion of iho North Island should be Cartorton, but thoso interested should do something to help tho movement along. The •Masterton district itself is not so much interested in butter or cheeso as it is in'wool ■ and mutton, hut the Masterton Show claims to be something more than purely local. 'Therefore it must needs extend its sphere, and embrace everything in. connection with our primary industries; not only wool, mutton, cattle, and horses, but also butter and .cheese.
