Captain Pethybridge, Secretary for tho Commonwealth Defence Department; who ia at present in Auckland, says he is not prepared to express an opinion 011 tho Australian defence scheme. • Ho'is confident that tho military programme will bo sanctioned by Parliament, and the Defence Minister is sanguine tlmt the naval programme will also bo Sanctioned. It is contemplated to raise a force' of two hundred thousand moil in from two to five years. : -
