KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
' .FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The-Karbri Borough Council met last evening, thero being present: The Mayor (Mr. C. I. Dasent), Councillors Lissington, Raine, Bradtiock, Smith, HarriSj.and Hammond. •A letter was received from the Wellington City' Couhcil, informing the Council that, if the lights: were turned off at midnight instead of hurting all night, a reduction of 10s. per lamp per, annum would bis allowed. >The. letter was referred to. the Lighting Committee; *• i'MrV' C. H. Osmond wrote regarding the state of .what should be a footpath in front of.'his two houses near the tunnel. Tho .writer, said , that .the street was impassable except by.'boards, and this was in fine weatHer:', :,Th'6"' Clerk stated that he had informed Mr. Osmond ; that the'footpath was within the city., boundary., . , ;The-Finance Committee recommended that the'sinking funds now in hand, amounting to £70.0, : .in; connection'with the £2000 loan be temporarily invested in debentures of the reserve improvement loan at 5 per cent. The report was approved. - ! The" Eublic Works Committee recommended that .Messrs. Field, Luekie, and Toogood be irifofmed';that Joll Roatf has not yet been formed: to the satisfaction' of the borough, and .that the borough would make its re-, quirements known to Mrs. Joll when plans were , submitted. That. Mr. J.. H. Tarr's quarry license on Makara Hill be renewed for three.yeafs. a■ The report was adopted. : :The, Building Inspector, Mr. C. J. Frost, •reported that since April thirty-ode building '.permits had been issued.;' .The .value of the;bijiildings was £11,480, and the. fees receive3;.tptafled £30,.5s < ,... ; Heiemphasised the necessity.., of a. plan of all" buildings, as there was nothing to prove, that plans, and specifications , were correct as regards ait;space,.frontage, anditheproximity: to; other, buildings, and boundaries. He also thought' that .all drains should be shown on plans, and drainage should be confined to the sections, .and refuse not allowed to drain on the streets. He recommended that all twostory buildings be provided with fire escapes. Thereport was adopted. : Accounts amounting to £491 18s. Bd. were passed for payment.
