Owing to various reasons there have been ■a few changes in- the team, as originally picked, to represent "Wellington against South Canterbury to-day. It will bo as follows:— FTJLL-BACK: • Thomas (St. James.) THREE-QUARTERS: Beavis (Melrose), Hitchings (Victoria Col- • lego),' Gordon (Athletic). ' FIVE-EIGHTH: Ferguson (St. James). HALF: Tilyard (Poneke). TVING FORWARDS: Avery (Old Boys), Gardiner (Poneke). FORWARDS: Murphy (Melrose), Houlihan (Southern), Cameron (Melrose), Do la Mare (Victoria College),, Perry. (St. James), Osborne (Athletic), Calcinai (Poneke).
LAW V.i INSURANCE. The annual. Rugby football match, Law •v. Insurance, was played at Athletic Park yesterday afternoon, tho Law Society and the insurance companies having granted a halfholiday to their respective champions for the fixture. The'match was somewhat uninteresting in the first spell,; Insurance having, if anything, the advantage. In the second spell the pace was made .more lively, , arid Law pressed their opponents to some purpose, eventually defeating them by 6 points to nil. Several good passing'rushes wore mado towards the latter end;of -tho game,. Lynch and O'Loary, of the Law forward division, being conspicuous, whilst Buddie, . full-back for Law, and Sheridan and Warwick, of the Insurance back division, also did good'work. A; Wylie scored the tries for the .winners. SMOKE CONCERT. , In. the evening a smoke concert was held at Barrett's Hotel, there being a large attendance. Mr. ,J. J. M'Grath prosided o\er the function, which was a most enjoyablo cm. Musical and othor items were cdntributed Ly Messrs. Lynch,: Morrison, Grundy, Minifio, Graves and Jacobs. The toast of "The Law Society," proposed by Mr. Montefiore, was responded to Dy Mr. F. J. Courtney. Mr. M'Grath proposed the toast of '.'The Underwriters." Mr. Pilchor responding. ' "Tho Teams toast, proposed by Dr. Webster, was responded to' by Messrs. (Law) and Warwick (Insuranco). Mr. Wylio proposed tho health of the ladies, Mr. Warwick responding. •. AUCKLAND v. WELLINGTON. (BY TELEGRAPH—raESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, August 11. Tho ( following have been chosen to represent Auckland against Wellington on Saturday next: —Back, Renwick; three-quarters, Wilson, Murray, Johnson; five-eighths, Bater, Magee; half, Morse; wing, Gillott; forwards, M'Guire, Herring, Francis, Cunningham, Nicholson,. Seeling, Hayward. Emergencies: Backs, Coote and Winder; forwards, Maguiro and Young. MARLBOROUCH TEAM. • Auckland, August 11. The Marlborough representative football team left for home to-day by. tho West Coast steamer. The team remained in Auckland in order to view the Fleet festivities.
AN APOLOGY. Napier, August 11. , The Rovers Football Club (Hastings) have apologised for their action in refusing to play a recent fixture on account of their objection to a certain referee. The Hawke's Bay Rugby Union'' to-night acceptcd the apology , and removed tho suspension. The Rovers will be represented in the Hawke's Bay team to meet Horowhenua on Saturday. . The following will represent the 'Wellington third-class , team against Kia Ora at the Hutt on Saturday:—Maisey, Wilson, Guthrie. K. Wiggins, J. Wiggins, Peart, Everard, Bridge, Auton, Ronayne, Russell, Fraser, Berendsen, Hume, Forbes; emergency, Harvey. '
