The monthly mooting of tho Borough Council was held 011 Monday night. Tho Mayor being absent. Councillor Wilson presided. The Health Inspector reported that the borough health was satisfactory, there being no cases of infectious disoaso for tho month. Tho treasurer's .report was as follows:— General account, £I7GI 14s. 9d.; library account', dr., 19s. lOd.; interest account, cr., £222 10s. lOd.; loan accounts, £402 Gs. -Id.; cemetery trustees, £37 2s. 4d.; fixed deposit £60. .Tho question of completing tho footpaths in the 1 southern end of tho Borough after discussion was loft to the Works Committee to report. Mr. Toon, on tho motion of Councillor Bancke, was appointed assistant inspector. A discussion relative to 'tho raising of a further loan for drainago oxtension purposes took place, and a resolution was passed referring further consideration to a special meeting to bo called by the Mayor .at an early date.

CARTERTON. Mrs. and Mr. E. W. Morgan, who left Carterton yesterday for Pahiatua after twentyone years' residence in this district, received a presentation oil Monday night from their friends in the shapo of a silver teapot and other utensils. The presentation was mado by Mr. George Stevens. Mr,. Seth Hart, a very old Carterton resident, is at present in a critical state of health as the result of a stroke of paralysis. Thero is rumour to the. effect that tho Carterton Street contract, which should bn finished in four .weeks' time, will bo delayed, as tho result of a difficulty experienced in going on with work at the present time. The business portion of Main Street is in a condition generally injurious to tho business interests of tho town. The bazaar held in aid of the funds of St. Mark's Ladies' Guild resulted in a sum of • £160 being secured; mainly duo to the ofForts of the following lady stall-holders:— Produce: Mesdamos King and W. Toomatli, Smith, Petersen, and Ashto'n; plain sewing: i Mrs. Broadbent,'Ashton, Steer, Bayliss, Toomatli, Misses 'ioung, Braithwaite, and, Oates; fancy: Mrs. Perik, Misses Broadbent, Johnston, Deller, and Livingstone (Clareville), Mrs. Nicholson, C. Gordon, and Miss Nicholson; tea rooms; Mesdames Beard,' Molloy, Dorset, Eagle, Misses Chow, Zillwoo'd, Molloy, Hooker (2), and Waldcn; art gallery, Misses Iliggins, Fairbrother, and Carmine; punch and judy, Messrs. Judd,' Jackson, Wolters, and Toomatli. The Gleo Club, under the conduotorship of Mr. J. J. Mead, also assisted. At the Council meeting on Monday night the raefc of -Jd; in the £ on the capital vSlue was proposed, and tho rate struck.

LEVIN. At the last mooting of the Boxing Association it was. decided to hold the first contest under the auspices of tho Association early ill September. The secretary is now at work preparing a programme. Boring preparations at the Stato Farm have been going oil for somo timo, but liavo had to be abandoned owing to tho breaking of the pipe. . It was unanimously decided to hold a social and dance. Miss Hurley accepted the secretaryship, and ' with Miss Daniel will arrange the musical portion of tho programme. Mr. Geo. Noble was clectcd M.C. All other clubs in tho district aro to be aeked to co-operatb in making the affair a'Success. . • •
