t Tho second debate in tho second round of tho contest of the Wellington Provincial Literary and Debating Societies Union took plac'o at St. Hilda's Schoolroom, Island Bay, last night when St. Hilda's Society met tho Victoria Collego Literary and Debating Society. ■ Tho subject of tho debato was "That a general reduction in the hours of labour will in increased intellectual culture!" Tho Victoria Collego representatives, Messrs. M. H. Oram, J. H. Gibb and J. M. Hogben, wero succossful in tho contest, beating St. . Hilda's _ Society by 15 points. Messrs. E. A. Irwin, T. Doherty, and E. Boocock wero tho_ speakers for St. Hilda's and took tho negativo sido of the debate. Mr. Granville Hunt actod as judge.
