Tlio injured men—Crawford and Henry— were taken to the Invercargill Hospital today. DEATH OF AN INFANT. Cisborno, August 10. An infant,- aged fifteen months, named Liston, died at Tiniroto.last night, after eating wax matches. The parents art) living in tho back-blocks, and wero unablo' to obtain the ccrvices of a doctor.
A FATAL MISTAKE. Napier, August 10. An inquest- was held at Hastings this morning on.the body of Edward John Lonergan, aged 32, who met his death by poison last Saturday morning. * It was stated that deceased's father had died about a week ago. This upset tho son, who was himself suffering from a severe cold. He was drinking last week and is believed to have mistaken a bottlo of disinfectant called Tarmonia for a bottlo of beer. The disinfectant was not labelled poison. -A sister saw deceased drinking tho Tarmonia and when slio told him what it was ho spat some of it out. Tho following verdict was returned:—"That deceased met his death by drinking Tarmonia containing carbolic acid in mistake for boor with no intention of destroying himself."
FOUND IN THE MOLYNEUX. Dunedin, August 10. A body of a man in an advanced stago of decomposition was found in tho Molyneux River at Tuapeka Mouth yestorday. Tho body is supposed to bo that of James Schreik, who was drowned as tho result of falling from a chair whilo crossing tho river neur Clydo in May last.
'Mrs. 51. Cohen, of 205 Willis Street, met with an unpleasant accident on Sunday. While she was gotting out of a tramcar at Kilbirnie, the car was put in motion, throwing her to the ground, with the result that she received internal injuries and a severe shaking. Sirs.' Cohen was promptly taken to lior homo in a cab by a corporation official, and was afterwards attended to by Dr. Boyd. She is progressing favourably.
An inquest, was held at the Morguo yesterday afternoon by Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M., coroner, 011 tho body of the old man Albert Nowman, who was found dead on Sunday morning. Evidence showed that deceased, who was 57. years of age, was employed as a groom by Dr. Edith Huntley, lielburne, and was found dead in bod on Sunday morning. The pas jot in the room was turned full on, and tho door being closed but not looked, tho room was full of gas. Tho body ,was warm when discovered, and artificial respiration was tried, but without success. Deceased was a man of tempcrato habits, and except tliat lie complained of having a headacho on Saturday, was ill his ordinary state of health. He was a. native of Norway,, and had 110 relations in the Dominion. Tho jury returned a verdict that death was caused by asphyxia, duo to an oscapo of gas in the room in which deceased slept.
