With the departure of so many people to cither Auckland or Christchureh, social entertaining is rather at a discount in Wellington, for this week at least. Those who liavo not been able io get hway will look forward with interest to hearing from their friends what .they have been doing and seeing in either place. Mr. and Mrs. Bloxiim, from Christchurch, passed through Wellington on Saturday on their way to Itotorua for a three weeks' stay. On Saturday afternoon Mrs. J. H. Williams, who lias taken the'house lately occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Stott, gave a kitchen tea for her cousin, Miss B. Toms. Miss Toms is to bo married shortly. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hogg, of Masterton, with their eldest son, are among tho visitors to Auckland. News has been received by their relatives in Masterton of tho arrival in London of Dr. and Mrs. Dawson from Pahiatua. It is Dr. Dawson's intention to study at the London hospitals. In the meantime Mrs. D.nvson is visiting various friends and relatives. Before leaving for New Zealand by the Corintliie, which sails about tho end of September, they intend visiting Scotland and Paris. Miss Meredith, who went Home with them, intends to stay longer there. People who have been visiting Sydney come .back filled with enthusiasm for tho skating they have invariably gone in for while there. It is ice that is skated upon, though artificially produced, very much on tho lines of Prince's at Home. Mis 3 Watson, who recently wont over, has joined tho ranks of the skaters, and writes enthusiastically of the pleasures of "real ice" skating. • "Our Otaki correspondent writes that Miss G. Houghton, of Manakau, has decided to enter tho ranks of the nursing staff at tho Wellington Hospital. Miss Houghton was for some time 0110 of the most popular nurses at Palmcrston North, but relinquished her duties to livo at Manakau.
