AUSTRALIAN WINE.
■ S FRENCH OBJECTION TO " BURGUNDY." (Ul - TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPVItIOnT.) (Reel August 9, 4.15 p.m.) London, August 9. Tho French members of tlio jury on colonial wines at tho Franco-British Exhibition at Shepherd's Bush withdrew because they considered that tho major part of tho wines submitted horo indications which might mislead buyers as to tlio place of origin, as in tho case.of "Australian B.urgundy." Tho British jurors who tested all tho wines report that Australian winegrowers have made great strides, especially in white wines.
Last year the Wine and Spirit Association at Home unsuccessfully attempted to prevent tho pale of Australian " Burgundy," holding that the name was likely to mislead buyers as to the placo of origin, the labels containing no reference to Australia. Tho proprietors concerned promised to have a certificate from tlio South Australian Government printed on tho labels.
