A woman named Brown was crossing an open gutter in Balmain, where the grade was steep, when she was swept away by storm water and was carried into a drain-pipe before assistance could reach her. The steamers Komura and Lord Stanley are overdue from the north, it is believed that one has broken down and that the other is towing her. •'KOMURA BROKEN DOWN. '• (Rec. August 10, 0.45 a.m.) ' Sydney, August 9. Tho./North Coast Steam Navigation Company's steamer Noorebar, 670 tons, has passed Seal Rocks towing the Komura to Newcastle. She signalled that the Komura broke three propeller blades in the- lato gales. ' • RETURNED LEAKY. SHIP'S SAILS BLOWN TO RIBBONS. Sydney, August 8. The ship Henry Failing, 1976 tons, left Newcastle for San Francisco' on Sunday week, Out returned to Sydney in a leaky condition, having been severely handled by a gale. ■
Her sails were blown to "ribbons, and she was hove-to for three days. The crew managed to keep the leak down. The steel screw steamer .Komuro, 21i2 tons gross,, is one -of., the . steamers, and was built at Sunderland in 1905. The steel screw steamer Lord Stanley, 4G9G tons gross,.'belonging to 'the Occidental and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, ' was built at Sunderland in 1900.
