FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. j The fortnightly. meeting of the Miramar I Borough Council was held last night, when there, woro present: —The Mayor (Mr. C. J. Crawford),' and Councillors Cooper, M'Leod, Brodie, .Witt, Bell, and East'. Messrs. Bannatyne and Co.'s magazine license was renewed. ; _ „ ' A letter was received from Mr. J. Muir, asking that tho road known as tho Paku Paku Road, at Mabin's Point, bo properly niadoj so'that it would be easy of access from tho sea front'either by zig-zag or steps. As another boat had-been taken _ of? tho ferry service, it'was necessary, especially for ladies and children, to have easy access to tho tram .terminus. The Engineer , was instructed to report. Mr. H. D. Vickery complained that a large open drain had been .cut through one of his sections, and consequently ho was unablo to sell the land, or lease the cottage on.it as it was considered dangerous for young children. If tlfc Council wished to pipe the ditch, ho was agreeable! • . Tho matter was referred to the Engineer to report. Tho Public Works Committee recommended that Mr. Peers's proposed subdivision of the Polo Ground be, approved, and that he bo 'granted permission to fill' in the. open dr.-'.in along Miramar- Avenue; the work to be carried out to tho. satisfaction of the' Council. Includedl in the amounts passed for payment were district fund account £706 os. 7d., and improvement loan account-, £1223 9a. 3d. . Tho Japancsa are a hard-working, frugal race, and would do well in the far south.
