POLICE .CASES. . (Before Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M.) N RETURNED TO MELBOURNE. Jane Now appeared on remand on a charge that on December 10, at Melbourno, being baileo of certain goods and chattels valued at £11, the property of Samuel Nathan, she did fraudulently convert the samo to her own use. , Detective Connolly stated that in company with Detective Cameron he arrested accusod at Wellington on July 15 on a provisional warrant. Accused admitted that sho was tho person referred to in tho warrant. Herbert Wm. Sainsbury, a member of tho Victorian police force, produced tho Original warrant issued for tho arrest of accused, and asked that sho bo remanded to Melbourne. , Accusod was handed into the custody of the; Victorian police officer to bo returned to that State.
ALLEGED FORGERY AND UTTERING. Edward Tlios. G. Hughes, alias Saule, appeared in answer to a charge of having on July 30 at Wellington forged the name of A. J. Dutch to a cheque on the Bank of New Zealand for £6, and uttering the same to George Lindsay. On the application of Chief .Detcctive M'Grath defendant was remanded until August 12. ' MISCELLANEOUS. George Hurley was convicted and fined 205., with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment, on a charge of insobriety. Ono first offender was convicted and discharged. Chas. Perry, a young man, was remanded until August 7 on ,a charge of having on March 18 at Sydney neglected to comply with an order made for the support of his illegitimate child. ' .
