Mr. Barter, late Manager of Telegraphs at Singapore, has been appointed London manager and secretary to the Pacifio Cable Board. Mr. Deakin has mado strong representations that the Board's work should bo put on a business footing, When the above message was brought to the notice of Sir Joseph Ward last night, he said that Mr. Baxter had obviously been appointed to succeed Mr. Reynolds (lato manager, who died during tho recont Cable Conferonco in Europe). Ho know nothing of Mr. Baxter, but had no doubt that tho Board, in which New Zealand was represented by tho. High Commissioner, would mako a suitable appointment.
