FIRE OR EARTHQUAKE?
JAMAICA CASES. 1 INSURANCE COMPANIES LOSE. (BI TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT.) (Rec. August 5, 9.50 p.m.) London, August 6. Tho Judicial Committeo of the Privy Council has refused to reverse the judgmont of tho' Supremo ,Court- of Jamaica rolating to claims for losses arising out of tha earthquako last year. (Tho Supreme Court decided against tho insuranco companies,) ■ Tho 'appellants, tho Scottish Union National Fire Insuranco Company, contended that the fires wero caused 'by the earthquakes, thui making tho exemption clauso applicable. The respondents contended that the fires were accidental. The appeal was dismissed.' The Privy Council's decision was received at Kingston (capital of Jamaica) with a great demonstration of joy.'
