"THE GUVNOR." , ' "The Guv'nor" was staged last evening at tho Oddfellows' Hall, l'etone, before a largo and enthusiastic audience, by. the members of tho Wellington. Amateur Dramatit Company. ' The characters were 1 well sustained and everything went off well. Tha part of Mr. Butterscotch, taken by Mr. Norman Aitkcn, was splendidly portrayed, as was that of Gregory, taken by Mr. F. Trelawney. , Miss Gurney as Aurellia performed her part in a pleasing manner, as did Miss Ruby Scott as Kate. The other characters were also, rendored in a manner which won the admiration of the audience. Tho l'etone Wesleyan Orchestra'and Petono Brass Band contributed tho musical part of tho programme. The proceeds go in-aid of tho widow and children of the late Mr. Webster, killed on tho railway line in the city recently. It is anticinated that a considerable sum will ba collected altogether for this object. Mr. Rovell, who has been oollecting money along the railway, has now just on £50 in hand. The Salvation Army Hall was filled yesterday afternoon, when Mis's Bainton and Mr. Elston were married; The hall was woll decorated, and over the platform was a sign,, "God bless Brother and Sister Elston." In the evening a programme was rendered by Major Holtlaway and his twelve girls, all different sizes, and tho wajvahey went through the different drills careful training. A feature of tho evening was tho bollringiug'and,musical-glasses.
