MAIDS AND MILKING.
A rural characteristic of the age was manifested .recently at the annual hiring fair at Sleaford, in Lincolnshire. This, "Country Life" points out, is the reluctance of country girls to undertake any work connected with the farm. ' The fair, itself was a great success, but a difficulty was experienced by thoso who wanted girls to act as indoor servants arid at the same time undertake the milking of a cow. Of courso it has long been recognised that women are not strong enough in'tho wrist to undertake the milking connected with a. groat commercial dairy; but there is no apparent reason wliv they should not milk one or two cows kept by many farmers for tho domestic supply. ' However, they absolutely refused to undertake this duty, and it is said that not one in fifty would accept a situation where milking was required. PRODDING THE POLITICIANS. "Tho Quean's with us," the Whigs exulting say, "For, when she fiend, us in, Rho let us stay." It may -*;<! ko ; but Rive mo leave to doubt How long she'll keop you, when she finds you out. Nasty, isn't it? Nasty/thing to resurrect, with the elections looming? It's a parable. Oc.s you find out Sriratura Tea, you'll keep it for ovor, and it will keep yen' content. "D," 2s. 10
