Yesterday afternoon at St. Paul's ProCathedral, "Miss Avis Edwin, daughter of tiaptain Edwin, was married to Colonel D'Arcy Chaytor, the Rev. T. 11. Sprott officiating. The-bride woro a very_lianusomo dressi the gift of her godmother in England. It was of ivory satm : mado in semi-Empire style 'and; trimmed with heavy silk-embroidcred lace. The long gathered sleoves were of white ninon. and on either side • the skirt opened slightly over a tucked underskirt of white ninon, the opening being held together with a lattice-work of white chenille. Across the'shoulders and falling in long stole ends in front were very wide bands of the latticed chenille, ending in a fringe of chenille, and forming a rich and effective ■ trimming. The bride carried a shower bouquet, and she wore a briUal veil of exquisite Limerick lace, / an heirloom in the bridegroom's family. . The bridesmaids, Misses' Jessie Macintosh, Frances- Chaytor, Kathleen Ottersonj and Grace Morrah, wore •exceedingly protty Empiro frocks of pale blue ■chiffon taffetas,.and long fichus of pale mauve chiffon which were caught at the back just above the high belt with silver roses, and finished in front with silver tassels.- Their, hats wero of net; trimmed with pale blue and mauvo hydrangeas', and they carried shower bouquets of freesias and purplo irises. Mr. Masefield acted as best man, and Mr. Van Asoh as groomsman. After the' ceremony a reception was .held at Captain Edwin's .residence on' Wellington Terrace. , Among tho very handsome, presents . received by the. bride, including, some ', beautiful silver and china, wero three silver vases tho gift, of tho old members, and present members, of tho Kiwi Girls' Hockey Club, , of which Miss Avis' Edwin was for a .long time captain; Part of the honeymoon" is' to be spent, in Aucklandj as Colonel Chaytor is to represent Marlborough at'the reception ,to the American Fleet. • " • . . . •'
, In tile Mayor's ,'Room . at- the Town Hall yesterday afternoon there was a meeting of ,about twenty, ladies,-who were called together to. discuss-" possible plans 'for- raising funds dn.aid' of> the' Academy of, Fine Arts. The proceedings were not ■ marked ■' by >. any enthusiasm.; - For one,thing,'.the dates on which the Town Hafl is available for any such Entertainment- as' has been Suggested ;ar.e4oo near to allow;of much time being given'to preparation, and 'for, another it was felt : that it would-be very difficult to deviso an entertainment: that would fascinate the Wellington public. It was,finally agreed that tho Savago Club" should- be. asked'.whether it '. could 'cooperate with the ladies' committeo in ■ some scheme to raise funds,■ .
