WOODLANDS HUNT CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. (BY TELEdBAFH.—SrECIAJ. CORRESPONDENT.) Pahlatua, August 5. The annual mooting of the Woodlands Hunt Club was held to-day on tho.Pahiatua race-courso in a southerly storm of wind, sleet, and rain. Li such miserable weather conditions, it was only to bo expected that there would be a small attendance, otherwise there is every reason to believe that tho meeting would havo been most successful. ■The course, quickly. became a quagmire in places, and horses and riders were almost unrecognisablo at the end of several races. The racing, however, was very good, thero was some fine jumping, and several very close finishes. ' The fight between Kuranui and Valima 1 in the. Woodlands Hunt Club Steeplechase provided the best raco of tho day, Valima being just beaten after a desperate finish. Eight bookmakers were licensed at £5 apiece. One of tho number, a new man at the game, who had been quoting extravagant odds. all day, refused to pay out eventually, and was treated to a hostile demonstration. There were ono or two cases of monoy-snatching during the afternoon, one, individual being arrested and expelled from tho course.

The arrangements in connection with the meeting were ill the capable hands of Secretary Arnold Weston supported by a largo number of, stewards and officials. Tho following are the results:— - ' .

Le Beau and Canton had a schooling task over big country, and gave a good display of jumping,'hut Canton tired .at the end. Loch Fyneand Pierre had a similar task, both showing up well. PAHIATUfI RACINC CLUB. 1 Pahiatua, August 5." A meeting of stewards of the Pahiatua Racing Clud was held last evening Mr. J. Breeds (president), iu the chair, anil Messrs. JL J. M'Lannau, J, ®< S*,

M'Sherry, W. I. Husband, S. V. Rodney, W. JT-ulo, and tho secretary (Mr. G. L. Hawlcy Drew) being also present. 'Tho secretary submitted the balauce-sheot for the year ended June 30, which was approved. The statement showed .the principal items of receipts as follow:—Members' subscriptions, £84; nominations and acceptances, £308 10s.; gates, £138 15s. 6d.; totalisator, £1303 4s. Tho sum of £1100 was paid out ill stakes and £176 18s. was paid in salaries, while a credit balanco was shown of £1233 13sl lid. The Club's assets amounted to £3334 45., and showed a balanco over liabilities of £1387 lis. Id. An application was received from Mr. H. Jackson of Wanganui for' tho position of starter and was held over for tho incoming stewards to deal with. The Chairman and Sccrotary were authorised to draw up tho annual report, tho date of the annual general meeting being for August 25. The Chairman thanked the stewards and members of committees- for their support during his past term of office. JOCKEYS' LICENSES. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wanganui, August 5. Tho' committeo of tho Wanganui Jockey Club wero engaged last night in considering tho annual applications for jockeys' licenses. Among tho largo batch of licenses granted was ono to Charles Jenkins, whose case has been before tho public for some considerable, time.
