DRIVERS IN THE COUNTRY DISTRICTS. " CLAIMS OF THE WORKERS. The dispute between .the Wellington Drivers'- Union of Workers and employers in country''districts has boon referred direct to tliQ Arbitration Court. Following is a summary of.tho clajms of the workers: — . Except as otherwise provided, 47i : hours, exclusive of the time required for nccessary attendance to horses, 1 shall constitute a week's'work, and the hours shall bo regulated by tho employer'according, to the spccial requirements of his business.' • Each driver shall bo provided with a time-book. The weekly minimum rates of wages shall bo: Driving-and attending a single horse, £2 driving and attending two horses, £2 145.; and 4s.' per week for each additional horse. Casual labour shall bo paid for at ■ the rate of Is. per hour for driving and attending to one horse, and Is. 3d. per hour for driving aiid attending to two horses. Overtime shall be paid for at the rato of Is. 6d. per hour, aiid shall commence'after 101 hours' •iTdrk'. for any one day. ' For work done on Sundays, Christmas Day, or Good Friday, a casual driver shall be paid 2s. per hour, save for time spent in attending to' Krirsos, which shall be paid at, ordinary rates. The fiumber of youths employed shall not ekceed one'to each employer employing one 1 driver, and one tocaclv additional five drivers. ; Xhe. wages paid to: youths shall be: From ,18 to lO.Jyoars,- 30s. ;• from 10 to 20, 355. ; over 20 years, at full jv'ages.'' Overtime for permanent hands shall bepaid for ' at. the rate of'ls.-3d,-per hour for the first •tivo houi;3 boyond tho prescribed 471 hours, and . Is. 6d. subsequently.' For, work dono on Sundays, Christmas :Day, and Good Friday,'other than atteiidanco to horses, permanent, drivers shall be, paid at the rate of; 2s. £ ?r hour in addition to the.weekly wages. .The following shall be tho recognised holidays: New Year's Day, Anniversary', Day, Good Friday, . Easter Monday,; Prince of Wales's Birthday! Labour Day. King's Birthday,TChristmas Day, and Boxing Day. Any employer may enter into an agreement with a-djitfer to provide him with suitable board and; lodging, and .to, deduct not. more than los.' per week' therefor. Employers shall give-preference. of employment to unionists, but the clause shall not apply to casual drivers. • , DRIVERS FOR CITY AND SUBURBAN BAKERS. DEMANDS OF- THE WORKERS.. A committee called the Dis-putes-Committee shall-consist of the president'and secretary of the Mister, Bakers' Union and the president and secretary of the Union of. Workers.; In the event of the Com-mittee-failing to agree, an arbitrator, whoso voto shall be final, shall be appointed. Following shall be the holidays:— New. Year's Day, 'Anniversary Day, Good Friday, ( lSaster Monday-, Prince of Wales's Uirthday, . :Labour Day, ■' King'sßirtliday, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day!. . Overtime shall-.be paid'for'at the rate of Is. 3d. per • hour; for . all,- time -worked over the prescribed- 47J hours' per week. For. work- done on Sundays, on, Christmas. Day, and on Good Friday 2s. per hour shall be paid, and on all other holidays Is. 6d., per Hour for other than attendance' to horses, in addition to the. prescribed wage. Unloading feed, , when occupying more than a quarter of an hour, and washing vehicles are not to be deemed . necessary attendance to horses. Drivers of carts during the first month when •learning a round may be employed without payment of overtime for the number of hours requisite to 'serve".the' customers. Preference must be given to unionists.
