He first started us a four-year-old in- 1898,' arid won six small races-that-season. His best seasons were in 1900-I.and 1902-3. Inl9oo-1 he .was .started nearly forty- times and won fourteen races of a value of £880. Several horses ..were schooled; on Saturday morning,;-and some of them gave\ very good displays. Albury and Storm, two of the horses engaged in tho Grand National .Steeples," ;were sent over the big country. St<jrm came to . grief at the sod wall, but Albury: got round safely and fenced in good style. Sen Sim. Whatakura, Stor-; mont, and Stronghold, four of the Grand National Hurdle candidates, all jumped-the schooling hurdles without mistake. ■' A-large number of tho Winter Cup candidates were given fast work on the course .'proper, hut no sensational times were recorded. :
KOROWHENUA HACK. RACING CLUB. The Horowhenua Hack Racing Club has provided a very attractive programme for its annual meeting to; bo'held at Levin on Sep- : tember 9 and 10. The principal event at \ the meeting is tho Horowhenua an open \ race of 150 1 sovs.,' run over, a mile and a' : furlong course. .Tho other open events are • the AVeraroa Handicap, of 100 sovs., one , mile;, the Park Stakes/; of 80 soys., , sis furlongs; and the Levin Handicap, 60 sovs.,. five furlongs. Hacks are exceptionally well: provided for, there being'four flat races and one' hurdle race "on, each day's. programme: set aside for' this class, of horse. . Tho distance of the flat rrices. varies from ifour furlongs to one mile,;and theorize money is ' 60 sovs., • except in the case" of the Maiden •Race on the first day and tho Hack Scurry on .the second day, each of 'which- is; worth ■ 50 sovs. . The hurdle races • are both run over a-mile arid a half course, the prize- • money being 70 sovs. and 60 sovs. on the respective days. The 'club has secured the ■ services of Jlr. C.
