The weather locally during the last week has been perfect,' and many sigus of spring are evident. \ . At Monday night's meeting of the Borough Council accounts amounting .to £303 3s. 7d. were passed for payment. Mr. W. Dunlop, the local dairy inspector, met with an accident on Saturday. He was ■riding,' w;hen:his horse fell, throwing him to the ground, badly breaking one of his ribs. The matter of kerbing, channelling, and forming footpaths—whether- this should be done at the sole expense of . the Council, or whether persons'whose property .abutted on tho'-footpaths'should meet the Couhcil by paying half the cost—brought forth lengthy discussion at the Borough Council meeting,on Monday night. There were strong arguments for both sides of the question, and as the Council did not come to any final decision, the matter was left for the Streets Committee to dealwith. As this is a most important matter to the ratepayers, it is to be hoped the Council will give.it very full consideration before deciding. The funeral of the late Mrs. Barbara Gardener,, which took place at Levin on Sunday, was' the largest ever seen in the town, showing the. esteem in which Mrs. Gardener was held. ' . The Borough Council at its meeting on Monday night decided to purchase a new hydrant for the local Fire Brigade. _ Mr. J. Gloyn, who is leaving this district shortly to take up land near Rongotea, has sold his farm at Heatherlea, Levin, to Mr. A. J. Arnold at a good figure.
