ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

_—-4 Mr. Thomas, jun., of the Ferro-Conoreto Company's office staff, "Wellington, had a narrow escape from a, serious accident yesterday afternoon.' He left the ' office (in Nathan's Buildings) suddenly to recall a man who had just left the offico as ho.thought by tho olevator. He was peering down the shaft to see whero tho elevator carriage was when he was struck on the head by tho floor of tho carriage, which lmd ascended a floor instead of descending, and was thou on its way down.' Fortunately ho was given warning enough to draw back, but not before lie received a blow that dazed him for a few minute's and snmshod his glasses, A manjiamed James Flint, aged 30 years, residing m 39 Abel-Smith Street, was admitted to tho Hospital last night in an unconscious condition. It is stated that ho fell down on tho pavement opposite tho Peoplo's Palace in Cuba Street, and sustained : concussion of tlio brain. His lip was also badly cut about. He was picked up by some men and taken to Dr.- Mackin's surgery, where- he received attention and was, subsequently taken to the Hospital by the police. John Beale, jockey, who won tho Dunedin ,Gup on Bulawayo, had his loft oyo excised to-day as tho result of ;v gun accident yesterday. Bcalo fired and hit and apparently broko tho hero's leg. Anyway, it started to run as woll' as : it could to cover. Owen tlion fired and hit the game, and to his own amazement found that ho had hit Bealo as well. It is thought that one of the shot rebounded from a etono. UNIDENTIFIED BODY FOUND. It has not yet boon identified, but is believed to be that of a Maori who was'reported missing some weeks ago-.. • SHOOTING MISHAPS. Cora, August 3, Charles M'Millan, of East Gore, wliilo shooting yesterday, lent his gun to a companion, who returned it loaded without- informing M'Millan; M'Millan rested the muzzlo on the toe of Jus boot and accidentally pulled tho trigger. His toes wero injured so badly that two had to bo amputated.
