Mr. A, Buchanan, of Jersey Holihj Palmer-, stori, has announced his'intention at contesting the Palmerston seat at the forthooming elections. Mr. Buchanan will stand a 6 an Independent candidate. ' It had been stated -that Mr. D. Buick of Kairanga would bo a candidate in the Opposition interests for Palmerston seat. This morning when interviewed Mr. Buick stated .that though he had not definitely, decided to come forward it was to all intent and purposes a forceono conclusion that lie woulu do so. He had been approached by people from all parts of the electorate who wero, desirous or seeing a good Opposition oandidato in the field. He wished, however, to emphasise tho fact that thera should be no half measures. If he came forward 'lie was prepared to go into it heart and ''soul, but beforo definitely announcing himself he wanted to be assured that his supporters were ready to form themselves into a good strong committee and work in such a manner as to leave nothing undone that would ill any way contribute to his success. If tlioy were prepared, to do this he was quite prepared to stand and. had placed himself in their hands with that understanding.. Mr. Buick lias had considerable experience in matters political. An invitation will be sent to Mr. Massey to deliver an address. An influential deputation has .already waited upon Mr- Buick. It is probable a reply will bo given on Monday when a meet-' nig of those in favour of his candidature, will bb held. Mr.. Buick is, a. well-known sheep and racohorso breedch 110 unsuccessfully contested' tho Palmerston seat 'against Mr, I'. Pirani. , Ho for several years was prominent m local politics.
