THE FINISHING TOUCH.
_ Dress has often been more elaborate, more dazzling, than it is this season (says an Aus-tralian-paper), but never has it afforded moro scope for the development of dainty and original -varieties. Evening gowns liavo lost much of thoir glitter. That quality-has been followed by a gleaming sort of richness induced by the making up of'diaphanous materials ot gold and silver tissue. It is an eminently _ becoming fashion. Nothing detracted moro jrom brightness of the eyes and delicacy of colouring than tho' flash of sequins. As a matter of fact nono but tho brilliant beauty can triflo with unlimited burnished sequins—or diamonds. Probably most of us will find at least the latter fact comforting. On evening gowns, as on house gowns, tho touch of gold is practically übiquitous; and here, too, tho wise woman shuns any but tho very best sho can buy. Colours are generally deep, tho paler shades usually being in creams and ambers. Deep rose, emerald, green, brown, and violet are worn in ono tone of colour. Gold and black arc tho only admissible "touches." Lace softens whito and cream frocks, and is represented in scarfs, but oil' ball gowns in deep colours it finds no place. For the simpler sort of evening frocks —the sort that ono "slips into" most joyfully after a da,v in a "tailor made" —velvet is used most liberally, while a thick mako of cashmere is almost equally popular. Supplementing gowns such as tlieso is the long ended lace fichu—a delightful accessory, tlmt lias lain neglected quite long enough.
