A country paper is tho authority for tho statement that Cabinet has informally decided that tho Hon. W." Hall-Jones is to rea' i Mr. Rcoves as High Commissioner in on. Tho' Primo Minister informed a Dominion reporter last night that tho statement was without foundation, as Cabinet had not yet considered the matter.
The number of tenants of workers' dwellings in tho Dominion at the ond of March ■last, was 84, the united holdings amounting to 14 acres 17 porches (says the Lands for Settlement report). The assessed rental was £2550 a year, averaging about £27 each. Only one property (of 33 acres in Cantorbury) was' purchased during the past year. There aro at present 756 acres of land acquired, and still available for tho erection of houses. Of this 532 acros wero in Wellington, 213 acros in Auckland, 3 acres in Canterbury, and 8 acros in Otago.
