MR. GILBUTH'S RESIGNATION.

REGRET;' IN THE WAIRARAPA. ' At tho annual meeting of the Masterton and' Pi"Association yesterday (says our Wairarapa correspondent) the retiring president, Mr. J. D. Cruickshahk, referred to the loss tho Dominion was sustaining through tlio resignation of Mr. J: A. Gnruth, Chief Government Veterinary Surgeon.. All who knew Mr. , Gilruth,. he said, . regretted extremely that her.was- leaving.■ tlio>country..'..He ,had much 'pleasuro' in' moving ■'■tli'o'! following' tion:—" That'the members'of tho Masterton A. and P.-Association regret very, much that the Dominion is losing the services of Mr.'J. A. Gilruth as Chief'; Government Veterinary Surgeon, and desires to .place on record their very .great appreciation of .'the .work dono.by him, and offer their-hearty:congratulations, to him on his.appointment to such an important 'position 1 in-Victoria.".' .'.'■ ■ Mr. W. Perry, vice-president; said that there was no doubt .that Mr. ; Gilruth was 'a very able man. •• The speaker understoodHhat the Chief •Veterinarian had not found things to be very, satisfactory during the past two ■'years.' The trouble was'eyidently'a matter'of salary, and he thought that New.Zealand could very well afford to givo as much for Mr. Gilruth's services as any other State. Ho thought that it would bo very difficult to fill Mr.'Gilruth's position.

Mr. D. M'Gregor, vice-president, understood from newspaper reports, that Mr. Gilruth did not get on very well with his chief. It appeared to ■ him that Mr.. Gilruth could very well, have been kept in the Dominion, and havo well filled tho University chair at .the Veterinary Collego which it was.proposed to establish .at Dunedin. New Zealand was decidedly behind, in its research work, and this fact intensified'the generalregrot which was felt at Mr. Gilruth's resignation. The motion was carried unanimously.
