Sir, —While the bakers' men aro striking for .more pay and less hours, not ono word fs uttered in complaint by tho man who carts the bread. Ho is out in all weather, very ofted soakedto the skin, coats being-useless " where- there is a continual getting off and on a high cart; his hours are long, and his pay is small. On Saturday lie works from 6.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., week days.from 7.15 a.m., and sometimes ending the day's work at 6.30 p.m. Any shortage of money in the bag that holds the daily cash has to bo made up out of,the carter's weekly wage of £2 Bs. Sometimes oil arrival to'work at 7.15 a.m. tho bread may not bo ready for an hour and a haif. There is no payment for that hour and a half. Tho baker at the end of each week pays these men for 48 hours, sometimes having ten hours extra out of them. There is no stated 'hour for their midday meal, which is often eaten on tho cart whilo going on their round. Tho bakers cry out about tho ingratitudo of their employees, but forget to mention tho hundred alnd one actions guilty of towards, these men. .Bakers cry'out that they pay them a good wage for'4B hours, but' they forget to stale how many hours they get work done by these men, which thoy.do not pay fpr. The employer poses beforo the public as a' much injured man, and ho hero again forgets to mention the injustice he tries from time to time to do his'employees. Tho bakers are not saints, nor aro his men all sinners.—l' •am, etc., - ONE WHO HAS DRIVEN A BAKER'S CART.
