".'4' -NIEEAHA; -■< "*••' The weather continues fair for this season of the year, 1 arid stbbk generally are going through tho winter well,' except with some' settlers whose places were burnt badly, and. who havo endeavoured to hold on to their stock. Quito a number of settlers are engaged stumping portions of ground for'winter fodder. A rather nasty accident happened recently in tho bush near Quinlan's mill: As a trolly with logs was coming down an inclino. tho brakes broke, and the load dashed into the horses. Strange to say, the hofso next the trolley escaped, but tho leader was killed instantly, and tho driver had a marvellous escape. Mr. Quinlan has been unfortunate lately, as this is tho seedwl draught', horse ho has lost this month. Another died of blood poisoning three weeks ago. The contractor and.meivwho built Larsen's Bridge have left here for tho' Hutt, where they have a large bridgo to build across tho Hutt River.-
