Tho building would bo fireproof .and earthquake resisting, having steel frame, stono walls, and'ferro-concrsto etc. It would not bo necessary to erect tho whole of tho building-at pre-' sent. '^Ono. portion fronting. Charlotte Street and Syduey Street could be erected without disturbing tho existing. Government Jiouso building, which latter, could continue to be used for committco 'rooms, ctc., whilst tho new part would provide, tlio permanent Chamber of tho Houso of Representatives, rooms for Ministers, members, and .a temporary , Upper . Houso Uiamber, etc. The first half.of .tho no\y building would cost £90,000, and would provide ample accommodation, together with tlioi existing Government Houso, for somo six or eight years. This would bo about tho lifetime of tho latter, wooden building, which is now badly aftected with the worm or .borer and fast depreciating, haviug been in oxistenco for about 38 years. >
