LACROSSE.

• :—-o - (By Wing Defence.) Before proceeding witlf a review of Lacrosse events during tho past , week I would like to announce that evory Saturday's issue of The Dominion commencing' from to-day will contain a short review of local Lacrosse, any : interesting Lacrosse ; items from other contres" of the Dominion and other parts of the world, and also expositions of tho game. " 1 : ' Owing to tho very wot and inclement weather no gamo was playod on Saturday. This was particularly unfortunate, as a match had bqen arranged between twentyfour. selected players from- which a team was, to havo been picked to represent Wellington against "Auckland in "the coining, iii-ter-jirovincialv'contost oil-August .8; it is hoped that next week ■ better luck will bo experienced, as the Wellington men-will need at -least a fortnight \of combined practice to enable /them to meet 'the well-trained Auckland men with a good chance of . succoss. '

It is anticipated that there may be somo littlo difficulty in potting tho' very best team away,'and it is to' be hoped that all players will recognise the call'of duty to their club, ,and if ; picked wilHoven" at' >a little personal sacrificemake up their minds to tako the ■ trip. With so many good men coming on the .Selection G'ommittco's task is no light ono, "Wing Defenbo"'trusts' next, week to discuss tho merits of- some-of the players and their . respective chances 1 of' selection from tho point of view ! of an onlooker.

I am pleased ■ to note the growth of the game in the Quoen City.. Auckland papors report daily on the doings.of Lacrosso, lights in their-city. • M'Coy, tho.last years' skipper, still seems to be.in good form.. Nolan, I .regret to , hear, . has not sufficiently recovered .from an illness to take part in the coming struggle. He will undoubtedly bo missed- greatly by the Auckland team. Stewart, the able and onergetic secretary, is working hard 'to make the trip an enjoyable ono for the Wellington men. To anyono interested in tho game ; I would mention" a particularly fine photo of tho Clifton (England) team playing, which can be seen in the current number of the-'fßad.-minton Winter Magazine." -The photo : will give beginners somo idea of-, the game in England to-day.... "Wing Defence". will be glad to hear of. any itoms:-of interest which. may como to tho notice of readers, and which havo, any bearing on Lacrosse. There . should bs addressed to Box 603, Wellington.
