This may restrict tho placing of fresh orders, but on the , other hand it is stated-that there are contracts made for
supplies of flour from Australia till the end of tho year, and these would not bo affected by the recont riso in price. The Moeraki brought over 1913 sacks from Melbourno. It is interesting to nolo that Australian Commonwealth wheat yield for 1007-8 amounted to about 46 millions bushels, and after providing for local requirements, tho surplus availablo for export is about 20 million bushels, of whjcli over 11 million bushels have already been shipped. There is nothing doing in oats beyond a small local trade. A very large portion .of tho oats crop in North Canterbury was put into stack, and is now being offered in the form of chaff. Tho splendid growth of feed during tho autumn and early winter. all over New Zealand has curtailed the domand for chaff, and had it not been for tho recent orders from Sydney, it would have been difficult to 'find a market for'a material portion of that available, except at much lower prices than thoso that liavo ruled.
Potatoes are dull of sale, as few orders for shipment are coming in, and during the time that deliveries wero interrupted by tho wot weathor any ordors that came to hand were filled out of store, several local _ firms, having laid in fairly large stocks, but it is reported that these have not been got rid of at a profit. There is, therefore, not likely ,to bo any. further speculative buying on tho present outlook. Onions have advanced' to JD7, but local supplies from growers are now pretty well exhausted.
Thore is a good demand setting in from the North Island for grass and clovor seeds, and several large orders have been placed. LONDON WOOL SALES.
