p Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Mabin, of Karaka Bay, left on a trip to Sydney by the Maheno yesterday. Mr. Thos. Eirker, late postmaster at To Aro (Wellington); and now in charge of the Sumner J'ast Office (Christchurch), is on a visit to Wellington. • . Misses G. Edward Smith and P. G.Boys, of Hastings, England, who are visiting New Zealand, leavo. Wellington on Monday morning on a tour of the northern thermal district. ; * Chief Judge Palmer and Judge Reeve-of the Native Land Court left for Christchurch last evening to preside at a sitting of the Court in that city. On the conclusion or the sitting the Court will proceed to Auckland. Mr. Charles Saunders, the English tenor, and Miss; Clara Robson (his wife) arrived at Dunedin from, Hobart by the Maheno on Tuesday, last. These vocalists are to appear in Wellington in conjunction ,with the Wellington Choral Society on August 13 and 14. Mr. William Fenton was entertained- ,by the members of the Wellington -: Working -Moil's Club (of which lie was steward) .on Thursday evening on the eve of his departure for Christchurch, where he will take charge of the Lancaster Park Hotel. During the evening Mr. Fenton was presented with a_ handsome gold pendant, as a memorial of his long connection with the Club. Mr. J. Kenneth Lowe, formerly of Wellington, who has been the engineer in charge of Auckland-l'enrose Railway, is now spending a few months in the District Engiueor's Office in Wellington, prior to taking ohargo of. the central section .of the Main Trunk lino between Marton Junction and Frankton. Mr. Lowo will bo stationed at Ohakune. , Before leaving : for the South Mr. Lowe was entertained at Newmarket, and presented by the men working on tho section with a gold watch, a pair of binoculars, and a purse of sovereigns, in addition to which Mrs. Lowe received a 6et of silver entree dishes.
