' (by raiiEGIUPH—MESS 'ASSOCIATION.).. ■ ■ ' • Westport, July 23: At .the hearing' of the charge of: perjury against Connelly to-day; _Mr; MT'Donald,* solicitor for the prosecution in'this case, detailed interviews'ho had with tho prisoners iu gaol in company with Haakon§en and the Nor-j wegian Vice-Consul, Anderson, acting as interpreter for Haakonsen.. • Nellie • Whelan, barmaid, said-Anderson and Haakonsen came to the Empire Hotel, at 8.5 p.m.,'. returned to the theatre, and, accompanied by' Halinen,, came'b'ack to the'hotel.about 9.15 p.m.' She had previously told tho police she did not know the time, not wishing to bo mixed up in . the' caso. She saw no bloody on the two prisoners. Peter Robb gave evidence about the fish shop row and also a fight' with' stewards 'later; when a steward,, who, he stated, was drunk, was knocked down by Halinen. ■ Mrs. Shaw said she saw th'o three men in tho theatro at the time it was alleged Bourke wis murdered. * William Thompson stated .that'Connelly, on board .'tho returning to Westport from the Nelson trial, asked him not to mention that'he had'seen him at Paparoa. Witness added'that . Con-: nolly sworo falsely in stating'he'did n'ot'knpw Bourke before, as Bourke at Blackball a year ago used to play his accompaniments. >
