9: ' FORTNIGHTLY MEETItJC. The fortnightly meeting of tho" Miramav Borough Council was lipid last night, there being present :—The Mayor (Mri:C. J. Crawford), and Councillors Cooper, Brodia, M'Leod, and Bell. . The following accounts wero passed fir payment District Fund Account', £223 i.. . 5d.; Improvements Loan Account, £12S0 '• Sd. The bank- balance to tho cred.H tho_ District, Fund-Account was set down • £559 18s. 4d.; and on tho Improvement Loan Account at £1972 lis. sd. . ' THE "SLUMP" SCARE. . Tho Mayor referred to the recent alarmist rumours as to falling land values in tho city and suburbs. Although thecp might bo something to bo said in support of such statements with regard to, certain cases, he did not' think that Miramar could be included in theso alarmist statements.- Ho had had prepared a return showing tho number and value of tho building permits issiied for contracts■ within the borough during 'the •' year ending June 30. The figures showed that. a >total number of- .57 permits, of : a total. value of £46,752; and of an average value of £820, had been issued." These ho considered a sufficient answer to the rumours referred to. • GENERAL . BUSINESS.,..' : It was decided that Coutts Street Extension be taken over, by the-borough-v----' ' The Secretary of the Miramar Golf Terraea Syndicate wrote suggesting";that; the Cf 'i cil, in order to facilitate a: settlement land taken, erect on Section 164, Main I w concrete stsjis to the ' top of _ tho jscctf' and, in addition, donate a sum of £40.
