MANAWATU SHOW GROUND.
- WHAT MR. ' JOHNSON SUGGESTS. . -At the eiid- of his' report''of his -visit to. the agricultural shows .of Australia, ■ part of which we published yesterday, Mr. Johnson makes the following suggestions v / "To sum.,up my observations, without taking into consideration many matters of, small detail and ideas .'which - one gathers and can bo put. into use. when, necessity- arises, I think the 'most • prominent matter that requires serious-consideration by us is a proper/and definite-plan of,-our ground, .an'd tho work to bo carried on by, degrees as finances ■permit; / .Want of uniformity, and want , of stability,-in ,the ..erection of .buildings has evidently 1 cost .the old societies largo' sums .of money. It is.,apparent .that we are, now reaching the timo when 'we will have to,prqvide covered stall, accommodation for all cat'tie escept tho fat' section, also stall accommodation for horses i "When wo. are in a: position; to carry .out'these improvements it will/mean our being able to place, a much larger number of -stock in a much smaller, space. .1. am. led to believe that our ring should be/still further increased in size, and, if at all .possible, ; the lawn in front .of .tho enlarged and raised., . I. would also like to see, -.when a definite plan ; is de-cided-.upon, somi3 .planting carried out, 'as it lends considerably to the - prettiness o'f' the grounds. The roading of.,the ground could be considered with advantage. I do not think. I have' forgotten anything, but would just.'like to mention the fact that, within the, last two years Mr/.Somers has been endeavouring to ! trace somo historical records in connection with tho. Royal Society at Sydney, and., found them/wanting; I'allude to this as I'think, it .is'a great pity o'ui\ yearlyreport is being discontinued in ... printed form," ■'..-. ■; ..
