CIVIL SERVICE BOARD. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES. Very keen interest jias been taken in tho election of members for the elective seats on tile Public Service Superannuation Board', tho. results of which were declared by tho Secretary (Mr. Amelius Smith) last night; Although numer-ous criticisms have been levelled at the Act by various sections of civil servants, it seems that the Service as, a whole has decided to avail-itself of the new scheme. It is thought that tho Board's work and tho classification schemo' which will be introduced may consolidate the various Departments and form a link between them. Mr. Georgo Allport, Secretary of Marine, entered tho Civil Sorvice on January 1,1875. as a cadet in the Marine Department, and he was appointed Secretary on 1, 1903. In 1891, Mr. Allport was admitted a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court. Ho has been an indefatigablo worker in tho eauso of superannuation, and is personally very popular. Mr. Hel.yar Wodderburn Bishop, Stipendiary Magistrate, Christchurch, is a son of tho Roy. A. C. Bishop, M.A. (Oxon), Rector of Bramdean, Hants. Mr. Bishop arrived at Lyttelton in January, 18C9, and four years later ho entered the Native Department. In 1876 ho was secrotary and interpreter to JudgoManing (author of "Old Now Zealand"). He was appointed Resident Magistrate, Mangonui, in 1882, and ho held the same position, in North Canterbury from 1893 to 190o,whori he was appointed Stipendiary Magistrate, Christchurch. Mr. Bishop has been prominently connected' with the superannuation movement, and ho is a very well-known and popular'civil servant. '
Mr. H. A. R. He has always ' taken an activo interest in matters dealing with tho welfare of officers, and lie is very well known throughout the .Dominion; • '• • Mr. W. M'Nickle, Check Clerk, Telegraph Office, Christcliurch ( was 'chairman of tho committee formed ,in Christchurch by the civil servants in connection with superannuation. He was a member of tho Post and Telegraph Appeal Board for several terms, and up to three or four years, ago, ho was editor of the "Katipo," .tho official organ of the officers of the Department. <
