'The 1 following 'tiro extracts -from Northern exchanges .Ngatiawa.—ln the Ngatiawa mine- tho drive going-west on the footwall -part. of the main reef advanced 17ft. .during''Jtlio week, and a portion of the reef was stripped with encouraging results. A start will be mado shprtly to put-a crosscut ■ through the. reef near,|thoend of tho drive, with the- intention of-ascertaining its size'and value. • " Waihi, Extended.—The manager. of the Waihi Extended mino reports that; driving has; been continued in tho north-east. end. of the intermediate level, and tho lode is-still of a-. ; largo size, neithor. wall, showing. The face is at present of a low grade,' with a littlo sulphide showing 'in the foofwall oido. A survey_ has shown that the lode, after leaving the winze, bears more to the east, and at No. 4 level should bo running- just along the boundary for somo distance.- Lately it has been bearing more into the Extended ground. The manager proposes to follow it soma little distance further at Uho intermediate lovel, say, for 30ft. and, if .it continues, to resume driving at No. 4 level, in order to dovelop it there. This is a different body'of stone to that on which Nd.'3,ahd No. 4 levels wore driven. In tho shaft fair progress is being made," and the country remains fairly close. The band of stone out some time ago is still showing in tho bottom, and it appears to be going straight 'down. It is about Ift. in width. Brilliant Block.—The drive in the Brilliant Block mine to intersect the main Champion lode has now been advanced to a total distance of 100 ft., and the country being passed through is of a good, character for gold-bearing, as well as progress. A lode from 6ft. to Bft. inthickness has been located, and the manager considers that it is tho body of ore which shed stone in the southern portion of the mine. It is cncased -in a splendid class, of sandstone,, and a level, to cut it' at a depth of 40ft. willbe driven. It will require a tunnel 60ft. long to intersect it. , Tangiaro—After returning from a visit of inspection to the Tangiaro: mine, Mr.'.•&.• T. Firth; mining' engineer, reports that the adit level . has been ladvanced to a point 95ft. in from tho entrance.' At 67ft. in, a ; 4in. loader «is cut; tho. stono having a nice appearance, but there was no gold showing. In the face tlie country is of a blocky nature, and good for rapid progress. Near the Point on the western end of the property a leader has been discovered, from 3in. to 9in. wide, and running .from low-water mark into' the high country. This gives good prospects of coarse gold .by panning. , Good dish prospects'linve also been obtained in several - places along the coast-' line from • decomposed roak immediately overlying the andesit'e. In a prospecting hole sunk, Somo 200 ft.' or 300 ft. .east from the' adit level good dish prospects have been met with. This is being done ~ with the object , of-. picking up the Bremner reef,- and, judging by appearances, it should be near at hand.' The outcrop of the Golden Shore reof has been exposed in several places on the southern sido of the spur, in each case giving dish, prospects of'fino gold. A small leader lias also been exposed on this side, ; composed of good-looking quartz. A .surface, stono obtained a few feet seaward gave heavy , dish prospects. In connection with-the main shaft the engine, counter, and pump shafts-are now in position, .and it/ is expected that pumping will commence to-day.' . Sinking will be continued another, 13ft., and at 70ft. below the collar a level ..will bo projected, to intersect tho Bremner reef.' Driving both hillward and seaward will then be commenced. On the surface this reef has given- continuous dish prospects for a distance- of 250 ft.' Several other 'gold-bearing leaders have- also, been discovered on high land, about 200 ft. above sea-level. Tho manager reports'that-'the adit-level, has been exten-': ded for a -.further' distance of.' 32ft., -making a, total ,of r. 83ft. .from the chamber oh tho Bremner. reef.' .During • the week* another 4in: leader of, very promising appearance was. cut, but tho manager advises driving on, this lender later on, and keeping tho faco going ahead, there being, every indication. of a large reef being near, as water is issuing from the face.
