THE BRITISH TEAM. MATCH AGAINST THE MAORIS. VISITORS WIN EASILY. (bx telegram;-—rness association.) Rotorua, July 21. The* match between the British footballers and the Maoris to-day resulted ill nil easy win for Britain by 24 points to 3. Although Britain's'score was big, it-in'no'way indithat, the game, was one-sided. Tlio Maoris held their own throughout brilliantly. Britain's backs wore responsible for tlio big scoro. The forwards on both sides were evenly matched. _ The first spell ended: — Britain, 8; Maoris, nil. Dyke and Laxon scored, and'the lattcr's try was _ converted by The second spell • proved - moro disastrous for the Maoris, as four tries wero added to Britain's credit, two being converted. These tries wero scored by Jones, Griffiths, M'Evedy, and Dyke. M'Evedy converted two of them. Towards the closing stages of the game, Jackett was prevented from getting in his kick, aiid, losing possession of the ball, Kira raced for tlio line neck and neck with the Britisher, and scored near the corner. ■ Wild excitement greeted tho effort, and Kira was carried shoulderhigh by ail exultant crowd of Maoris. Tho attendance is estimated at fifteen hundred. Tho weather was cloudy, and. rain began to fall just at tlio close of tho game. Subsequently tho Britishers were entertained at a ■ social and dance in' tbo Assembly Hall, THE FINAL TEST. . (BT TELIGEAPn—NtESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, July 21. With tho exception of R. G. Deans (tho Canterbury representative), tho wnole of tho New Zealand team to play Britain on Saturday are now in Auckland. The team practised at Victoria Park this afternoon, and tho men are all in. tip-top form.
