AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY BUILDINGS.
■ ■ GOVERNMENT GRANT OF £30,000. (Br TELEGItAI'H.—SPECIAL CORItESI'ONtIENT.)' 'Auckland, July 21. The question of tho new university buildings iii Auckland is to bo discussed at tho next meeting of the University College Council. Although tho site of the new buildings has not yet been decided upon, a resolution is to be moved to tho cffcct that the architects bo instructed to prepare a skotck plan of a series of buildings which would meet tho needs of the college, not only at the present time, but ill tho years to como. It is proposed to submit 'this plan with a report to. tho Government for adoption as a general scheme to bo carried out gradually, if the necessary funds for tho erection of the building aro from year to year voted by the Government. The colloge will not' be built if the present, ideas of the Council be adhered to, in one pilo; for it is stated that at Wellington tho singlo building has been found to have many disadvantages. Tho plan will probably be on tho lines of Montreal University—a group of detached buildings. The sum of £30,000 which has been mentioned as tho Government's grant towards the-cost and equipment of tho now building will, it is believed, be insufficient, but if tho proposed plan wero approved of by tho Government, and a sito arranged, tho work of orecting tho Auckland College would bcin at an early date, and by adopting tho iJea nf a group'instead of a single building, the risk of constructing a collogo which would bo inadequate for tho needs of tho future would be obviated.
