THE COMING ELECTIONS.

WESTLAND. : (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Hokitfka, July 20. Mr. H. L. Michel,-.Mayor of Hokitika and chairman of various local bodies, who contested the Westland scat-at the by-election two years ago, will again be a candidate for the seat in opposition to the sitting member, Mr. T. E. Y. Scddon, at next general election. Mr. Michel left by steamer yesterday for the far south of Westland, where he iviil speak to the settlers oil tho political ques-. tions of tho day. On his return he will deliver a series of political'addresses in all the chief centres of the electorate. Foster, who contested the Bay of Plenty seat with Mr. Herries last election, is a candidate for Ohineniuri. Other candidates are Messrs. Poland and Way (Socialist). ■ , ' ' . HAWKE'S BAY. . Walpawa, July 20. A deputation of about two hundred of the Liberal party, headed by Mr. John Harkor who formerly contested tho scat, waited on Mr. A. E. Jull, president of tho Counties' Association, and asked him to contest tho Hawke's Bay seat. _ They pledged themselves to support him, and Mr. Jull consented to stand. ■ . - , SEAT. Dunodin, July 20. Mr. Stevenson, chairman of tho Charitable Aid Board, will contest the Taieri seat at tho general election.
