A SMART CAPTURE.

A smart capture was effected' by Sergeant Burrows kte on Saturday night.' .The' sergeant was standing .at the corner oi Colombo and Armagh Streets when a'young, man informed him that as he passing a right-of-way at. the rear, of Messrs; Cook' and', Ross's shop he .heard a noiso'sinjilar to that caused by. the breaking of glass.- The setgeant hurried' to the spotj" and," on making investigations, found that a . window ,at the 'roar'of-.Mr. l Henry 'Tuck's' grocery .store-had been broke'p.' The sergeant waited, and after a few minutes a; man came through the win'dow, and was ■ promptly'.'securjid by the polico officer. '.' The' man was taken to the polico station,, and on being searched it was found that ho had;four'tins of ; tobacco and one bottle pf whisky, in,-his besides twonty-ono now halfpennies." ' On returning to tho shop', a .little; later iii '.company .with Mr.: Tuck Sorgeant' Burrows.'found- that 'a patent till, which bad contained a number of halfpence; resembling tlioso the man had iii his possession, had been broken open, and many. of. tho' coins wero found scattered on the floor.-. The coins, which aro-all new, appear at first, glanco to be sovereigns. Three bottles of whisky were also found outside tho broken window. Tho man arrested, Allan James Dix,- was charged at the Police Court this morning with breaking and entering and theft,'and remanded till Wednesday.
